I've had Proxmox on an Intel NUC for a few years now but lately I find that it has shut down. The NUC is powered on but I need to power it down and then on to get Proxmox up again. I only have one VM with Home Assistant. I'm looking at Syslog but can't really tell why it shut down. Is it a temperature thing? There is a section where it says reboot. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Nothing special in those logs that would explain it.
I would try to update PVE to the latest version and maybe try a newer or older kernel in case it is some fimrware issue that already got fixed.

Hmmm, OK, Thanks. I'm current as far as updates and I'm not sure how I'd install a newer or older kernel.

113-114 Celsius is waaaaay too hot for a NUC.
That's why it is rebooting.
Please check your hardware, cooling paste, cpu fan, etc.

"Nothing special in those logs" ......what about the cpu temperature.....

That is disk temperature not CPU temperatur. And that temperature is not in °C. Run smartctl -a /dev/sda to see the actual temperature which will be way lower.

Yes, so according to 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 113 107 000 Old_age Always - 37 a "113" in the logs relates to 37 °C. So all fine there.

hey i have exactly the same issue, can you please tell me how to fix it, i can't understand what am doing wrong , or at least tell me what is the problem here?.

Well I'm hopeful it's fixed. I've tried several things. At first I thought it might be the NUC power supply so I bought a new one. A week later it shut down again. Then I thought the update to version 8 might fix it. It didn't , after several days another shutdown. Someone suggested updating the BIOS on the NUC. The one in use was quite old so I updated it the other day. So far so good, fingers crossed, it hasn't shut down.

Bottom line is I never did find out why and probably won't.
