Proxmox on 2TB+ array

I got a 2u server with 8x 1TB disks in RAID10 (4TB of usable data) and 2x 2TB backup disks (for snapshots/backup).

Now I want to install Proxmox on it, but grub doesn't support large drives (2TB+).

What are my options?

Right now I have created 2 4x1TB RAID10 arrays, but I think the performance will suffer.

What is the best option?
- Use 2 4x1TB RAID and install proxmox on the first array
- Use 2 USB sticks in raid1 and create 1 8x1TB array
- put /boot on USB stick and the rest on 8x1TB array

The only limitation is the installation partition with our installer. depending on your needs you can configure the other raid volumes as needed after installation, e.g. with LVM.
Do you plan to have a cluster, and do you use KVM or OpenVZ (or both)?

not helpful now, but the upcoming Proxmox VE 2.0 works already with 2TB+ arrays - expect a first beta end of summer.

I don't have more room in the server to create a redundant boot array. I could configure 2x1TB and 6x1TB but that's a big waste.

I'm trying to put /boot on the USB for now.

I somehow got it working with a special bios boot partition on the 4TB array.

I booted a from a Debian 5 installer and did manual partitioning.

On the empty 4TB disk, I created the following table:
- 1MB partition, no mount point, BIOS BOOT OPTION=YES
- 3,9TB partition, LVM
- 12GB partition, SWAP

With LVM I created a 100GB OS ( / ) and 3,7TB DATA ( /var/lib/vz ) partition. There is also still 20GB room in the LVM group for snapshots.

I hope this helps for other people who want to boot from a large disk.
