I see the new feature:

Detection of spam inside of attachments. This is implemented for the file types .pdf, .odt, .docx, .doc, .rtf, as well as images (through OCR).

Two questions:
- will this OCR detect spam in images shown/embedded in the body of the message (eg. as Base64)?
- tesseract --list-langs only shows eng and osd as supported languages. Can other languages be added?

Without looking at the code I cannot tell 100% - but from the setup (you need to provide file-extensions and file-types) I'd guess that this only applies to attached files - not data embedded inside html)
- tesseract --list-langs only shows eng and osd as supported languages. Can other languages be added?
you can try installing the `tesseract-ocr-all` meta-package - that pulls in a lot of language specific packages.

In any case - let us know how your experience with OCR is (we have it running here internally, but don't get too many spammy pictures

I hope this helps!

Hello,

During the installation there were a couple of configuration files that wanted to upgrade.
I wanted to get the correct/recommended option that should have been selected.

1 of the files: main.cf.in should we Install the maintainers version or keep the local copy?
(I know I can copy and re-enter my added settings, hopefully documented I added certain lines)

the 2nd file reference:
Configuration file '/etc/mail/spamassassin/v343.pre'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** v343.pre (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?
While I picked defunct option here, what is the right choice?

Thanks!

In any case the other version will remain in /etc/pmg/templates (with a .ucf-dist or .ucf-old suffix)

Configuration file '/etc/mail/spamassassin/v343.pre'
Did you modify the file? - if not I would strongly suggest to simply remove it - then you'll get the defaults upon upgrade

I hope this helps!

In respect to the main.cf.in, should I have let it update?
My thought was I would loose my customizations?

For the /etc/mail/spamassassin/v343.pre since I already did the upgrade with no, should I bother trying to get a copy of the new file?
I know it only loads the DCC plugin in respect to content.

Thanks!

as said - check `ls -l /etc/pmg/templates` you should find the other versions there as well - then you can compare them (e.g. with `diff -u` ) and decide what to do

After integrating spamassassin 4.0 into proxmox 7.3, Chinese support has been greatly improved. Previously unrecognizable spam emails can now be recognized under custom rules.

Can you post your custom Chinese rules?
I would like to refer to it。

I just wanted to check I'm doing this in the proper/best practice way.

I'm editing
/etc/mail/spamassassin/init.pre

I'm then loading any Plugins that I think I need which are within all of the v341.pre v342.pre etc

At that point I will be utilizing additional plugins which I see have been dropped over the upgrades.

Sounds correct?

Thank you!

Hi,
Do you have any feed-back with ocr, base64 embedded images and non english languages ?
