Hello
I need your opinion. I would like my home server running Debian Amd APU 10gb ram, few TB HDDs to be as follows:
Proxmox
One VM running LEDE for x86_64
Another VM running audiophile Linux for streaming medium quality sound to audio system
One container running Samba file sharing
Another container running home assistant Hass.io
I would like to pass all traffic to LEDE machine to act as router/firewall.
Is it possible?
Would be easy to make backup (some free choice) of whole system drive?
Thanks for any answer
Maciek

Hi,
yes - it's possible,

Udo

PS: How do you define easy? If you have enough backup-space, like externel hdd, yes it's easy! (but why you need an backup of the whole system drive? - Most of them are on the install cd or inside the updates! You only need to save the configs.)

You're right. I can do backup of configs only. I can do it to external HDD.
One more question:
Is it better when I have one system drive to user ZFS? Or stay with ext4? Or maybe does'nt matter.
(I woluld like to make snapshots of VMs and containers (eg. before upgrade)
Thanks.

If you only have a few disks and no ssd for zil/arc then you probably would be disappointed by zfs performance. It would be better to use lvm or container files (qcow etc). 4 disks for zfs and a smaill ssd for zil/arc gives quite satisfactory performance.

I have 2 x 3TB WD RED HDDs and system is on 1TB Samsung HDD.
I can put 120GB SSD if it makes machines run faster for system drive

I run a dedicated SSD split between ZIL and ARC. I then run 4 disks in a raidz-1 setup. The OS is on another disk but it could just as easily be on zfs.

Apologies, I have been misusing a term. When I referred to ARC I should have been using the term L2ARC. ARC refers to the in ram cache.

Thank you very much.
For me my goal is to replace few tools by one. Performance is not my goal as soon as it will be enough to run audiophile linux.
So I will just do it. Also I will set my SSD to use as ZIL and L2ARC.
Thanks one again for help.

Maybe this is something you have already considered but how will you be attaching to audiophile linux? Directly attaching a DAC to the proxmox server? USB? SPDIF output from the host machine?

You will find plenty of helpful hints in the forums for USB passthrough then.
