Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to make backups with a service other than the proxmox backup server. I use Netbackup and I would like to manage backups with my server but I don't know if it's possible and I can't find my answer.

the question is phrased the wrong way round - anybody can write integrations for other backup targets for Proxmox ;) please ask Netbackup whether they support Proxmox guest backups..

Although Veritas NetBackup still does not provide native integration with Proxmox VE. It cannot directly manage or control the PVE host itself. Alternatively, some users install the NetBackup Client inside Proxmox virtual machines, treating each VM as a regular server for file, database, and application backups.

Aside from NetBackup, I personally use Veeam more often for backing up entire virtual machines. The approach is to install the Veeam Agent on the server for entire computer backups, and then use Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition to restore the backup as a virtual machine on Proxmox VE.

However, it should be noted that, Proxmox VE 9 has some issues when restoring with Veeam Backup and Replication Community Edition version 12.3.2.3617. The good news is that it has been improved since version 12.1.5.17. You can find more details in Veeam’s release information: https://www.veeam.com/kb4775

If you are looking for a backup solution that integrates well with Proxmox VE, you might want to give Veeam a try.
