I have a brand new test machine.

ASUS M3A76-CM MB
AMD athlon II x2 250 CPU
4 GB ddr 667 MHZ RAM
(2) 80 GB HD's in a RAID 0

I have tried booting up another machine with the CD I burnt to test it was burnt OK and it boots fine on that machine. On the new machine, I get to the first screen which tells me to hit enter. I hit enter, the CD spins up for a few seconds, everything seems to freeze(I hit the caps lock key and nothing happens), the CD stops spinning and nothing more happens. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Most likely a cdrom problem. Try to burn another CD (using CD-R), or try with another CDROM drive.

e.g. with a USB cd-rom

There are two cd-rom's in the machine. I also did try with a usb cd-rom I own. I booted my laptop with the cd-rom just fine. I didn't go through with the install of course. I will try booting with acpi=off. Do I simply enter that at the boot prompt?

I have the same motherboard.

You will have to use the "acpi=off" flag to boot successfully.

At the install boot prompt type "debug acpi=off" without quotes.

After installation you will either have to edit the line permantly or add the extra argument every time you boot the Proxmox box.

P.S. Did you use the onboard RAID controller or an addon card? If so which one? I tried setting it for RAID 0 but had issues with Proxmox as it still only saw one drive.

OK thanks for the tips! I will try that shortly. I was using the fakeraid in the bios. I couldn't even get Ubuntu to install with it, so I went back to no raid for now. I have been trying several different configurations and am currently testing Ubuntu+xen with drbd between two different machines. I really like the ease of use that proxmox appears to have, and if I can get the storage to replicate with DRBD, my set up will be perfect.
