Proxmox Backup Server: garbage collection fails

Hello,
We ran out of space on our proxmox backup server instance. After some cleaning (removing some logs), we got back about 1GB of storage which usually is enough to run a garbage collection. However, this time the garbage collection fails with the following error:
Error: unable to start garbage collection job on datastore PBS-DATASTORE - EACCES: Permission denied

For information, the datastore was created on a LVM volume.

Is there any way to recover from this error ?

did you check whether the file permissions are correct? the datastore should be owned by user backup, not root..

The permissions of the datastore folder are 766 for the user/group backup:backup

how are you starting the GC? via the GUI? could you try with proxmox-backup-manager and post the full output?

Via both the GUI and the command line I get this same error. Is there any way to turn on a verbose output on the command line ?

do you get a task entry for the garbage collection? if not, you maybe deleted directories in /var/log that you weren't supposed to delete - reinstalling proxmox-backup-server might help with that. if you do, does it contain any more output?

Okay, the problem was kind of linked. The folder /var/log/proxmox-backup was assigned to root:root instead of backup:backup. Once changed, the garbage collection worked fine. Thank you!
