I tested the solution and congratulations!!! Really working better than I expected for an Alpha! Tested on Windows 7, Windows 10 LTSC and Windows 2019 and working very well.@tizbac recently shared his open source VSS backup client called "proxmoxbackupclient_go" that is currently alpha.
Ideally, Proxmox devs would cooperate with tizbac, since it requires a "Proxmox side patch to add another kind of entry to pxar format with Windows security descriptors in it".
Proxmos devs seem to be using Rust rather than Go, but hopefully they can at least coordinate a common pxar format so that compatible GUI and CLI support can eventually be integrated into Proxmox.

I don't think so. PBS is indeed succesfull already. Maybe your point of view is a bit to much Microsofty Windowsy.... But in Datacenter and in larger Virtualization Environments, Windows is in best case a VM or doesn't matter at all.... So from this point of view, a PBS Client for WIndows (Client) maybe a good addition for some areas, but it is by far not a requirment for any success...I think a windows backup client is the only way pbs can ever be succesful.. Currently it is just so limited it isn't even a serious option at all..
It is a shame that in 4 years time there has been zero progress on this.. Reason for me to think they they don't take pbs that serious themselves.
I totally agree with itNGO. DataCenter usage is the far more common use case for proxmox (as is for all other large scale VE). We offer our customers Win environments hosted on proxmox, but the backup solution is pbs - and it works perfect. Even things like instant restore and file restore work like a charm, maybe with the exception of MSSQL and Exchange, but for these - in our environments very rare - occasions we restore to another vm and do an export/import to restore certain items.I don't hink so.
