Hey guys,

I'm looking to port forward my proxmox and access via WAN so I can access Kali VM.
Can anyone provide any guides I can use to do so?
Everywhere I've looked I haven't found a sold or updated tutorial on doing so, I have an Arris BGW320 router

Thanks in advance!

Then you need to do the port forwarding on your router.

In your case Proxmox VE is not responsible for the network. (Asuming you have not configured the firewall inside Proxmox VE)
Your VM is just a computer on your routers network. So any routing needs to be done on the router.

If my understanding is correct(which probably isn’t), wouldn’t I be at risk by putting the Web GUI on the WAN? Or does it not have to go through a VPN first?

Anything you make publicly accessible to the internet is a possible security risk.

And if you plan on using a vpn to access it, I would recommend to just do it via a VPN VM and not on the proxmox ve host.

It has the downside of proxmox ve needing to function somewhat even in a disaster but given that (I assume) you have fysical access to the server if it malfunctions I would not worry about external access to the host when it malfunctions. (And even running the VPN on the host will still be affacted if the host malfunctions.)
