Hello.
I am using pve on several servers with joy. now i received an supermicro system with the board X9SRE-F with a xeon e5 2620 v2 and 32 GB Ram. The Installer (8.3) starts correctly but after i choose install with graphics or with reduced graphics the vga screen tells me "... out of range" an i cannot finish the installation. it is possible to install ubuntu or other distributions on this system.
i searched the internet for the gpu on this board (the xeon has no internal gpu) and i found out: Matrox G200eW 16MB DDR2 graphics.
Is it possible that your installer is not compatible to this old graphics chip?
How can i install pve on this board? should i use an old installer (where to get)?
yours Heinrich

In the downloadable installer is no text mode. you can choose "save graphics" but this does not function. i tried several monitors, the monitors display kind of "out of range". on a rasperry pi or any "normal" pc there are no problems, only on this supermicro board (with the old matrox chip). the board is not bad, intel xeon e5 2620 cpu with 12 threads an 32 gb ram...
or can i download another installer (.iso). i am not fixed at the most recent version (8.3)...

@leesteken: many thanks. but i read the docs. i i not trivial to "add" pve to a runnnin debian. i will try it in a few days...

i tried "Terminal UI". it does not function...

Where did you download the Proxmox VE 8.3 installer? It supports a text mode installer (but might need an additional nomodeset): https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#installation_installer
on a rasperry pi
Proxmox does not support ARM processors ( https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#_system_requirements ), so this cannot be true for the Proxmox VE 8.3 installer.

But it will give you a normal Proxmox VE except if you wanted to install Proxmox on a ZFS root.
many thanks. but i read the docs.
Which documents did you read? The official Proxmox manual states 64-bit x86 CPU and Terminal UI support, but the installer that you use does not support text but (also) runs on a Raspberry Pi?

oh yes. it was an hp thin client, not a pi. sorry!
i will try the text or low graphics mode again to report here further...

i wrote "but i read the docs.". that was bad translated german. i wanted to say "i will read the docs"..., sorry

it is so: if i choose the "lowest" graphic in the installer, the vga monitor "says" "out of range"...
i start today with (1.) install debian and (2.) "add" pve...
i will report here...

hopefully soon...
the picture (attached here) shows the selected graphics...
