hello Im trying to help my friend who is in school he needs to setup a proxmox server So I'm helping him out. What i did was setup 16 VM with 1 core and 2GB of memory. Used ubutu for the VM Setup SSH server and everything went good. Into i went to restart the VMs when i did it loads the ubuntu load screen then goes to a blank purple background and nothing else on the screen. Each vm does this. I do not know what to do can someone please help me out. I have dual socket motherboard with 16 core CPU on each socket and 64 GB of memory 32GB on each cpu. I'm not sure what to do i tried to reboot each VM also reboot the host system i keep getting that blank purple background with nothing else. Please someone help me?

Did you already try to install some other operating system in a VM?

Hello Dominic if i load windows it's fine. i thought it might of been the iso from ubuntu. So i downloaded a new copy and tried that and get the same thing.

Only thing i can think of maybe it's a little slow on booting need more cores and memory? My friend needs as many Vm as he can get with the power of two meaning 1 core 2 gigs of memory or 2 cores and 4 GB of memory i think that is how he put it? I cna change it to any later if he needs to but this whole frezzing or lagging whatever you call it is driving me nuts.

Just a update. One VM is got a loading screen of ubuntu with 4 dots but that is all each dot is loading and just sitting there with the dots cycling over and over.

You might want to either hit ESC or remove 'quiet' from kernel command line to determine why it's hanging.

What's the host CPU model? If it's an older Intel ensure that you have the latest 5.0.21 based kernel installed and booted, or the 5.3 proposed kernel should work to. There was a single kernel in the non-enterprise repositories which caused issues under Linux Guests if older Intel CPUs were involved.

Hello i have a dual cpu socket amd G34 motherboard, 6276 processors.

Second thing is for the quiet i have GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet quiet amd_iommu=on" because of the pci passthrough.

OK, some older AMD, but strange most of the time, when I had issues, then with Windows in VMs on older AMD, not Linux VMs..

Remove the two "quiet", they are not required for the passthrough, the iommu is enough.

Did you followed our documentation or some other article, for the passthrough setup?
https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/chapter-qm.html#qm_pci_passthrough

Hello yes i used that link for the passthrough but got confused. So i opened a post for the pass through here. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/nvidia-grid-k10-and-k2-cards-passthrough.59495/

I have one windows 10 VM with the passthrough to the video card. But i also have a few linux vm as well. The windows vm works with no problem just a little i don't know you call it lagging or shuttlering on the video because it is behind on the audio as well. However the linux vm are not wanting to startup as well.

Well other thing is don't want to cross post that is a different problem.
