my old disks are gone and i need to replace them. i have 4xWD RED intelipower 5400-7200 SATAII drives in ZFS raid10 and i need to add two another for storage zfs raid1. can somebody advise me fast and reliable SATA3 HDDS? 4TB is enough...
For SATA I like Western Digital "RE" series, and for Seagate "Constellation" series, those are enterprise grade SATA drives that I've had good luck with. Hitachi 7K4000 also had good reviews with good URE rate and MTBF
If you already have an SAS controller that does HBA/IT mode, you can use SAS drives as well, which are enterprise grade. No matter which drive you choose, I would still probably rotate them after 2-3 years, and be proactive occasionally running smart tests & I/O tests to check for any unusual wait times. Also should strongly consider 321 backup plan for critical user data on your VM as well as the VM's themselves.
