Hello,

I have a couple of setup questions for a new install. My server chassis does not have room for any ide drives but my motherboard has a IDE header. The chassis has slots for several removable SATA drives. I'm thinking of using a 4GB compact flash with IDE interface to have the proxmox boot image and then use the SATA drives for virtual machines. The motherboard has hardware RAID for the SATA drives. Initally I have 4GB memory. Someday I'll expand that but for now its 4GB RAM.

My question:

Where should /tmp be located?
Any other issues I might encounter using compact flash for boot?

Thank you

its not recommended and tested to install on flash, 4 gb is not enough. I recommend you create just one or two raid volumes. (but I assume you do not have hardware raid, only motherboard fake raid which is not supported?)

I dont know if its motherboard fake raid or not.. its a supermicro board.
model H8DAE-2 with two opteron quads... ?

I didnt think it was wise to have boot on the RAID volums.. ?
maybe I'm just confused? The SATA drives are 1.5TB.
Like I said.. this is just to boot...

thank you

this mainboard includes nVidia RAID 2.0, which is Firmware/driver-based RAID (fakeraid). see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

For Proxmox VE, you need a real hardware raid controller, e.g. http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/products/Controllers/Hardware/sas/performance/SAS-5805Z/
