I am struggling to get EL Capitan up and running on Proxmox. I was successfull with High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina but not with El Capitan.

Problem seems to be old certificates with the installer.

Is there another way to install besides using the installer as iso?

I have a working El Capitan VM on VMware Fusion, an USB installer or a time machine backup.

Difficult to say without more info, but if you have a working VMware system, you could try migrating it to PVE instead of installing from scratch. Check our wiki for more.

Thank you for the answer. I finally got my hands on an installer that was detected by the bootloader Clover. After figuring out that I had to set back the date in the (OSX) terminal to get around the old installer certificate everything worked fine.
