I can't seem to get my head around setting up email notifications for backups. I just installed 8.1.3 but can't get test emails to show up. Syslog shows this:
Code:
Dec 13 07:33:21 pve postfix/pickup[150552]: 31ED1440BC4: uid=0 from=<root>
Dec 13 07:33:21 pve postfix/cleanup[163694]: 31ED1440BC4: message-id=<20231213073321.31ED1440BC4@pve.home>
Dec 13 07:33:21 pve postfix/qmgr[938]: 31ED1440BC4: from=<root@pve.home>, size=887, nrcpt=1 (queue active)

Where did I go wrong?

As a side note, this was posted to the wrong sub-forum - this is Proxmox VE and not Proxmox Backup Server.

I assume your provider is blocking outgoing connections on port 25 (SMTP).
Here is what you can do:
  1. Continue using the 'mail-to'root' notification target, which uses the locally installed Postfix instance and the sendmail command to send email: Then you must configure Postfix to send mails via an external relay host:
  2. You can create a new notification target of type 'SMTP' and configure the relay host there (new with Proxmox VE 8.1 - should be much easier)
This external relay could be any type of personal email provider, e.g. GMail/Outlook. You will probably need to set up a new account there, as most relays do not support relaying without authentication to prevent spam.

Oops, sorry about the wrong forum.

I'll have to read up on your suggestions as I'm still lost right now. I think I might reinstall Proxmox and forget about notifications.

Many thanks.

Did you find any sulotion on this problem? I have the same problem and i think its protonmail bcz of Protonmail Bridge. I tried changing the mail to a new google account and following the steps from another Forum Post. But cant get it to remove the old email somehow, and it does not connect to google... "postfix/smtp[129607]: connect to mail.protonmail.ch[185.70.42.128]:25: No route to host". Anybody share to help me?

Yes, I finally got it running. I'm getting notifications on backup completion now. I'm not sure I could tell you exactly how as it was a few months ago. This thread helped me.

Here's a screenshot of my setup.

Thx. I finally got it to work but i have one problem still. My old email address, the one i entered when installing Proxmox, is somehow still in the background... i have changed it in Datacenter > users > root > edit > email.

I have restart the PVE i have tried everything but somehow the logs keep telling me it tries to connect to my old email address also. Not just the new one, that works. Anyone knows how to permanently remove/delete the old emailadress, after changing to new onw or is it somekind of bug. Even when i`m doing backups i get an error messege from the old email

Never mind. It all worked out with the backup doing its thing... The old mail removed it self after first backup notification.
