no video on system console

I have a supermicro model x7dal-e+

it does not have an on board video card.

we used this for proxmox 1.9 with an add on video card, and had display on the system console.

for proxmox 2.1 kernel 12 , we do not have video - after grub loads the kernel and gets to 'waiting for /dev/...' or something similiar.


does any one have a suggestion to try ? I'll research more tomorrow otherwise. there are probably some arguments to give grub .....

Hi, I have the same problem too!!! I have a HP 3405 PC with AMD 6350 integrated graphics card but after proxmox installation, console doesn't show anything. At now, I have bought an nvidia dedicated graphic card but I'd like to use the integrated card only. does anyone have a suggestion?

Proxmox is v2.1
The computer is an HP Pro 3405 Series MT with integrated graphic adapter.

If somebody has the solution please post some screenshot to this post because I have read many link about the solution but no one are clear for me:

I also have this problem. It is not causing any issues at the moment, because I can get into the system with SSH. But, its kind of scary to not have the console work.

I successfully installed Proxmox version 2.2, booting from CD and setting everything up using the GUI screens. But when the system rebooted to start the server there was no video display. I went to another machine and accessed the machine with SSH. I have started setting up the system, but I think I would like to try and resolve this problem before I commit to this setup.

The CPU is an AMD A4-3400 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics

It has built in graphics which is what that the mother board uses for graphics. It worked ok with a native Ubuntu install.

Has any progress been made on this issue since June.

so the 2.2 is up and running but the console of the physical host is black? disable graphical terminal

nano /etc/default/grub

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console

update-grub

reboot

No luck with that. I made the change and ran update-grub and it made no difference.

Using the grub command link I ran videotest and it produced out of range errors on the monitor. I tried enabling
GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

but that did not help either.

I think it is driver issue:

Try this if you can see grub try appending "nomodeset" to the kernel line by pressing e at the boot prompt.

also edit /etc/default/grub and change the following line to look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nomodeset"

and do a update-grub to make it permanent
