Great VM software!

I have installed the Proxmox VE and created a few virtual machines and setup a few Blue Onyx Linux boxes and they worked like a charm.

When I created a few small XP VM's they install ok but I cannot get and Ethernet Controller active. I have added many types in addition to the vmbr0 / virtio.

Any advise would be helpfull.

Thanks!

Hi,
rtl8139 should work out of the box.
On e1000 depends on the windows-versions. It's an good idea to use the actual driver from the intel-website (create an cdrom-iso, which you can use as cdrom inside the vm).
Link for the intel download: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19754&keyword=%22Pro%2f1000MT%22〈=eng

Thank you for the reply.

I have tried to add the rtl8139 and it doesnt seem to want to work. I will add a cd-rom-iso and try and add different drivers. That was my next question, how to load drivers.

Hope it works.

Thanks again.

Hi,
if the rtl8139 don't work i guess that's your windows firewall is the problem.
Other question - if you ping from the win-vm, can you see the packets with tcpdump on the host?

I have downloaded the rt8139 drivers, created an ISO, added the ISO to the Storage area (with winxp IOS and BQ.ISO). I have gone into the VM and tried to create a CD-ROM and I have tried many options and reset the VM each time. If I had a a little more information I might get this going and will I try not to be so "thick". Hardware is a HP DL310, working only with 2 GB and 160 GB drive, I will increase everything as soon as I can get this going and beta test bandwidth etc. It seems the BQ Centos is really working well, but it would be nice to be able to create a few VM XP's for remote work.

Again Thanks for the replies.

I am stupid....Power down and power up XP and hardware changes work! I was rebooted...
