Hi, I'm evaluating proxmox backup server and reading fastly the documentation, I can't understand if proxmox backup client should be installed in every LXC or VM of a Proxmox VE cluster or if there is a way to manage backups from Proxmox VE.

My best regards

Hi,
You don't need to install the backup client in the VMs/CTs themselves. Proxmox VE allows you to make backups from the hypervisor's perspective itself. So you simply configure a backup job in Proxmox VE that includes the VMs/CTs you want to back up and you should be fine.

This will create backups of the whole disk a VM/CT sees. If you want to back up only specific files withing a VM/CT, then you would need the proxmox-backup-client. However, that is usually a more esoteric use-case.
