New server and Proxmox 3.4 - FS and RAID

Hi,
for new server, Dell R630 with 10x Samsung 850 pro 480GB SSD
using for VPS servers with Proxmox (we will set later OpenVZ containers inside this host)
1. what is the best RAID configuration for best performances
2. what is the best FS, EXT3, EXT4, other FS?

Hi,
this it hard to say!
with Hardware raid
performance is clearly raid 0 but very hi fault risk.
performance and safty is raid 10 but you loose 50% of space.
and I would use XFS as FS.

with Software raid:
raidz1 or raidz2 is a mix of both but you loose 2 or 1 disk and cpu and ram usage.
and FS is zfs.

Thanks, but on Proxmox v3.4 Installation I didn't see XFS option (working with Hardware RAID), but just ext3, ext4 and ZFS (Software RAID)

currently XFS is not supported in the Proxmox VE Installer.

You have to install Debian7 manually and install then the PVE packet.

and I would use XFS as FS.

Performance wise I think you will only get marginal difference between XFS and EXT4. For this reason I don't think using XFS on Promox hosts is worth the effort.

also, can I convert it to XFS now?

Like mir wrote the performance difference is not big so you can stay there.

As fare I know there is no way to convert ext4 to xfs.
