Hello all

After a period of simplification, I started again redesigning my backup server (a supermicro x10 with an e3 and 24gb ram) and modify it to install opnsens next month.

I installed proxmox 9.2 witrh no issue on an installed 500 gb ssd .

I'm trying to create a truenas scale vm. When the seabios is selected nothing hapens. T stop the vm and i chage the boot to uefi. I created a uefi disk

regardless i get dbsdxc failled to load boot0003 uefi qemu qemu hardisk

what step di i miss or where di scew up?

thank you ion advance for any direction you may be pointg me or hel

The "BdsDxe: failed to load Boot0003 UEFI QEMU QEMU HARDDISK" message just means the VM's UEFI firmware looked at your virtual disk and found nothing bootable on it — which is expected before the installer has ever run, since the goal is to boot the VM from the ISO first.

A few things that usually fix this with TrueNAS SCALE VMs:

1. Keep BIOS = OVMF (UEFI) plus the EFI disk you created — TrueNAS SCALE's bootloader is UEFI, so that part of your setup is already right.
2. Attach the TrueNAS SCALE ISO as a CD/DVD device on SATA (not IDE), and in the VM's Options -> Boot Order put the CD/DVD first for the install run.
3. Use machine type q35 for SCALE.
4. Give the VM at least 8 GB RAM and CPU type host — SCALE's ZFS behaves better with it.
5. Double-check the ISO checksum — a corrupted download produces exactly this "no bootable device" behavior too.

With the ISO first in boot order you should land in the TrueNAS console installer. Install to the virtual disk, then either remove the ISO device or move the hard disk back to first in boot order and reboot.

One extra note for later: once the install works, consider passing your physical data disks through to the VM (by-id paths in Device Manager) instead of using file-backed virtual disks. QEMU HARDDISK + ZFS on a virtual volume is fine for testing, but on a real backup server you want ZFS talking to actual disks so SMART and error reporting stay meaningful.
