Hi All

I have just built a proxmox server and installed a template created by a friend. The main box is fine and I can ping out no issues. The issue is with the template that I installed with the venet network settings. I can ssh in to the template but have no access out to ping google or anything.

Can anyone advise

Thanks

Glenn

I have the same problem.

I have 2 HOSTS configuration as a cluster (pve-1 is 172.16.140.141 and pve-2 is 172.16.140.142)

Each HOST can ping anything. But the VEs can ONLY ping their respective HOST, but cannot ping anything beyond (including the gateway or the other HOST)

Here are my settings

HOST CONFIGURATION (pve-1 ... i.e. first HOST):

Hi,
your metric looks strange.
What is the output of
Code:
grep NETIF /etc/vz/conf/VMID.conf

Udo

Hi,

Here is the output you request:

On pve-1 HOST

Code:
# grep NETIF /etc/vz/conf/102.conf
NETIF="ifname=eth0,mac=C2:CD:1A:AA:5F:1D,host_ifname=veth102.0,host_mac=00:18:51:5A:19:84"
On pve-2 HOST

Code:
# grep NETIF /etc/vz/conf/101.conf
NETIF="ifname=eth0,mac=3A:2E:03:09:35:75,host_ifname=veth101.0,host_mac=00:18:51:71:63:7C"
Please note, that I had to enter the TCP/IP on the VE manually since it cannot reach the default GW which is also the DHCP server.

Here is the configuration file on the VE:

Code:
# cat /etc/network/interfaces
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
    address 172.16.140.152
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    broadcast 172.16.140.255
    gateway 172.16.140.2
Thanks,

Hi,
try this line in the config:
Code:
NETIF="ifname=eth0,bridge=vmbr0,mac=C2:CD:1A:AA:5F:1D,host_ifname=veth102.0,host_mac=00:18:51:5A:19:84"

Hi,

This did not fix the problem.

From the HOST:

Code:
# grep NETIF /etc/vz/conf/102.conf
NETIF="ifname=eth0,bridge=vmbr0,mac=C2:CD:1A:AA:5F:1D,host_ifname=veth102.0,host_mac=00:18:51:5A:19:84"

From the VE:

Code:
# ping 172.16.140.141
PING 172.16.140.141 (172.16.140.141) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 172.16.140.141: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=1.40 ms
64 bytes from 172.16.140.141: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.070 ms

# ping 172.16.140.142
PING 172.16.140.142 (172.16.140.142) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 172.16.140.152 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From 172.16.140.152 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable

PLEASE NOTE:
My setup is:
My laptop is running Ubuntu
I am running Vmware Workstation
I configured 2 VMs within Vmware Workstation to have Proxmox (pve-1 and pve-2)

I don't think this might be making any difference, but I wanted to share the info (just in case).

Ahh - i think this make a big difference!
You should try proxmox ve on a real hardware.

Udo

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

For the record. My co-worker is running the same setup and it is working for him. The only difference is the fact that he has a MAC laptop and I have a Ubuntu Laptop.

His setup is:
Physical machine: MAC Laptop
Installed Vmware Fusion
Within Vmware, he has 2 VMS representing the 2 Proxmox instances.

Best.
