Hello,
On proxmox 2.1-14, I have a vm with CentOS 6.2 installed.
From the vm I'm trying to send an email with an attachment (about 5,5MB) from thunderbird.
Client gets timeout error.

So, I've used another computer in my lan (not virtualized) with MS Windows Vista and thunderbird.
In this case I hadn't matter and all worked fine.

I think, there is something in network config on vm or on the host.

The vm uses as model "virtio", maybe I could try another model such as e1000?

Regards

Hi,
you should do first simple network test and not "smtp-sending fails"!
Can you ping from the VM the pve-host, other machines inside your network and othe machines outside your network?
Is DNS working?

With linux-VMs is virtio the right choice, but e1000 is also good.

Hi,
Lan is working correctly, ping works, dns works. Transfers using ftp, scp, http perfectly work, I don't do smtp-sending test because this is a production server and the sending email is its own activity.
I've tried changing mtu on vm and also I've setted up e1000 card but it didn't work.
Tomorrow I will try setting on vm lan rtl8139. I hope that it works...

An ideas?

Hi,
if ftp,scp and so on works fine, you don't have network trouble. Changing mtu or such things will not help.

It's looks that you have an problem with smtp, but this has IMHO nothing to do with virtualization.

BTW. I use the rtl8139 only for a bsd-distro because no other nics work there.

I've donw some more test and I discovered that on my LAN ftp,scp etc... works fine but outside on my network they don't work. If I execute the same test on the proxmox host ALL tests work fine. I think there is some trouble in network but related tu KVM and CentOS.I found this bug: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5526. So I'd like trying enabling vhost_net but what have I to do for this purpose? In GUI I didn't found any parameter to enable it.
