Hi All,

I've try to install proxmox but I'm having a problem with the ethernet adapter.

During installation, my ethernet adapter is beging renamed from eno2 to rename2.

That mean
port 1: eno1
port 2: rename2

When I try to configure network on the Proxmox GUI. I can't edit "rename2" and when I rebooted this node. it will switched the name of port all the time

port 1: rename3
port 2: eno1

How can I solve this issue? Please kindly advice.

Thanks

I've had a few weird problems with my ethernet adapters over the years. I don't know off the top of my head if Proxmox uses the old systemd or a v197+ version to name devices. I believe it depends on the version of Proxmox you're running. Proxmox 4.4 looks like it uses the old version whereas the 5.0 betas use v197 or later.

Anyway, this is likely going to be a quick command line fix. If your version of Proxmox uses old systemd, then you just need a rules file containing your adapters MAC address(es) and the names you want statically assigned to those ports on reboot. If you Google "udev rename network interface" that should tell you everything you need to know :).

The newer versions from v197 and up are a little different so I'm not sure if that same fix would apply, but the new udev was specifically designed to prevent this kind of thing. That said, I think Proxmox 5 uses the new version, so if you're not running a production system, and you have some decent backups, and you don't mind trying out a beta, then perhaps updating will solve your problem!

Hi TheFunk, Thanks you for your reply :)

I'm using Proxmox beta 5.02 and I've installed by using the ISO file (based on debian 9).

I've followed this link before "h t t p s : / / shellhacks.com/change-network-interface-name-eth0-eth1-eth2/" it doesn't work for me :(

Thanks
