Hello!

I have a question. I'we got 6 disk from this 2ssd (120GB) and 4 SATAIII hdd (1TB).
My main problem is the I/O delay high and the disk usages is high. But now only 2 sataIII disk inside the system with raid1.
I want to upgrade and i bought one raid controller with 512MB ram + BBU and of corse the new disks.
But meanwhile the new ZFS on the new proxmox released and i don't know i need to be use it or no?
In my old ideas i want to set up a raid1 with the 2ssd with the raid controller for the system and one raid10 with the 4hdd for the vms backup etc.
Now i was wondering about what is the best setup for my system.
I have much problem i don't know how i need to set up ZFS to store backups templates etc. because i don't want to store this things on ssd.
I don't know how i can use the raid controller writeback cache.

So anyone have some idea what is the best setup with 2ssd and 4hdd with raid controller with bbu and cache for the proxmox to use the writeback cache?

Sorry for my bad english.

Hi,
I am not sure if I understand you correctly.
But if you already bought a raid card, it makes sense to use it.
If the problem is i/o delay than create raid1 setup from ssd drives and store all vms on them and then connect hdds directly to motherboard as zfs prefers direct access to drives and after that create from those four drives for example raidz1.

Hello!

Thanks for reply.
Yes i already bought it.
Right the problem is the i/o delay but the ssd raid 1 only for the system i can't use it for vms too because i wrote its only 120gb.
I think its not a good idea because if i put the hdds to motherboard because in this type the write-back cache gone from the safe raid controller. And i want use raid 10 for better performance on these hdds.

So anyone other idea? Or opinion about this?

You can use localstorage for your vm as well, proxmox makes a special partition on root volume. So you can use around 100gb of ssds for vms in case of raid1.
You wrote that you want those hdds for backup so I supposed that cache or speed is not so important in this usage.
Anyway, I am not sure if you can make more pools on that raid card. If yes, than just make two pools and forget about zfs.

Its my mistake. I want use the raid 1 ssd for system only and the raid 10 for vms and for vm snapshots iso ect. So if i attach zfs volume i can't story only the vms. So i need the cache this is very important.
