Ok Sooooo hers my question i know running vms for multiple services makes sense i.e true nas, ubuntu, windows server, pf sense and kemp (my current test bed) and so makes sense but say for instance in my ubuntu server im running my web services like transmission and sonarr is there any issue having that same server running open vpn and lamp as long as there security settings are right its all behind a kemp load balancer and pf sense so i just dont see any reason to run another instance of ubuntu, same for windows apps.

I could be wrong but im here to learn.

Hardware wise Iv got a Dell PowerEdge C6145 DualNode Server - 4 x AMD Opteron 6378 16/C 2.40GHz / 256gb ram
this is in both nodes so basically two identical servers

No reason you couldn't run multiple services in one VM

However, the 'advantage' of virtualisation is that you can compartmentalise according to function and for most of these cases you don't need a full VM as most of these will run quite happily as a container.

So, equally, no reason you should run multiple services in one VM :)
