Multiple Stand-Alone PVEs to one PBS

Hi there!

i want to backup two stand-alone pve servers to one PBS. The Problem is, that both PVE uses the same VM-IDs (100, 101, 102 ...).

When i try to Backup VM 100 of the second PVE it fails because of
"backup owner check failed (pve1@pbs != pve2@pbs)"

It seems as if tries to add the Backup of VM 100 on pve2 to the previously taken Backup of VM 100 on PVE1.

i could set up another datastore for the second pve but i do not like that solution for some reasons. (For example i would like to have deduplication across both PVEs)

Is there another way?

Currently, you have to use different datastores for each PVE cluster.
Datastore namespaces are planned for the future...

Hi,

and two PVE (first with VM ID 1XX and second with VM ID 2XX) backup to one PBS with one datastore witch two @pbs users its ok ?

it's up to you to ensure the clients don't get confused/overwrite/delete eachother's backups if you do it like that.. in other words, it's potentially dangerous, but it can work.

I also got myself in a muddle with this problem and backups got mixed up. I archive various guest as they have the development environment used to develop my application. I backup a guest as an archive then update the environment. However I get everything mixed up.
Now I take a backup then use the notes field but not ideal. I then restore from the backup to a new ID but this can also get confusing. Would be really useful if the name of the pve and name of guest were included in the backup info some. So keep same ID but can change the name of the guest
Something like this. eg. ID 101 name Win10_v3 then 101 Win10_v5 etc.

So in PVE backup page it would look like pvenode/vm/108/Win10_v3/2021-09-12T18:02:39Z
And in PBS datastore content list page inc the name column after the group
That would work for me but I am sure you will have a better solution.
