Hi,

Is there a way to do the first backup using an external disk, move the data to the server and then backup only the delta remotely? I have a home server in miy home lab that i want to backup on the servers that i have at work but doing a 500 gb backup with a connection with 10 megabit in upload will take quite some time, so i was thinking to backup it up first on an external ssd, move the data on a datastore and then connect from outside. Is it possible?

Thanks

yes, with a bit of manual work:

  1. create datastore on mounted disk on source PBS
  2. do backup
  3. remove datastore on source PBS (this just removes the config entry, the data stays there)
  4. unmount datastore on source PBS
  5. physically transfer disk
  6. mount datastore on target PBS
  7. add entry to datastore.cfg on target PBS (this has to be done manually, 'create datastore' will fail since the directories already exist)
  8. keep using the datastore as-is, or define a 'local' remote and do a sync to the actual datastore on the target PBS you want to continue using
  9. do backup, only delta will be uploaded
