Hi everyone, I have a vmware cluster on OVH in virtual private cloud (PCC) mode.
Now I have made a new high-performance cluster in our datacenter and I would like to migrate the OVH machines, does anyone have experience and suggestions on how to migrate these vm?
The problem is that OVH gives very limited access to the vcenter, so for example I can't get the VMDKs via SFTP or SCP, I tried to mount the datastores via proxmox but it times out, I tried starwind v2v converter but when I connect I don't see any host.
So I can't find an easy way to migrate the virtual machines, considering that I have about 100.

I'm currently working on a similar proof of concept with our PCC at OVH. From my understanding, the primary issue is that most migration solutions require direct access to the VMware hosts, which aren't network-accessible at OVH.

If it helps, one solution that has worked for me so far is using Veeam Backup to back up virtual machines from the PCC and restore them on Proxmox. While effective, this approach is somewhat inconvenient since Veeam's support for Proxmox doesn't currently include VM replication.

Veeam Backup works because it uses what they call "Virtual Appliance Mode," which allows disk access by attaching the VM disks or snapshots to the Veeam appliance.

Other potential methods for exporting the VMDKs include:

  1. Downloading them via the vSphere client file browser. However, I've encountered errors I have yet to resolve when attempting to convert the VMDKs with qemu-img.
  2. Using VMware's ovftool as documented in Proxmox's migration guide. I haven't tested this method yet, but it might be worth exploring.
Hope this helps!
