Hi,

I am planning a new server for Proxmox.
Does anyone know if the "LSI 9271 Raid Controller" works together with Proxmox.
I want to make one big Raid-6 (5 Drives) for the System (Proxmox) and the VM's.

Hi Dietmar,

but it looks as if it only works with Driver Installation and is not supported by the Kernel directly?
But then it's not possible to install Proxmox directly on the Raid, or?

I have now ordered the Adaptec, although I would really prefer to put the LSI, because - according tests - it is faster.
But since no one could tell me if the LSI is directly supported by the Kernel it was to dangerous for me.

re-opening that thread...
What about the newly released Proxmox VE 3.0 kernel? Is there any built-in support for LSI 9271? Current stable Proxmox kernel is 2.6.32-22-pve.
In the Proxmox VE 3.0 release notes I found "pve-kernel-2.6.32 2.6.32-100" - does this mean the kernel is based on the RHEL 2.6.32-100 kernel?
Thomas-Krenn Testprotokoll notes the following compatibilities:
- RedHat Linux Enterprise Server 6.0, 64-Bit, Kernel: 2.6.32-71 (only with manual driver install!)
- RedHat Linux Enterprise Server 6.3, 64-Bit, Kernel: 2.6.32-279
- RedHat Linux Enterprise Server 6.4, 64-Bit, Kernel: 2.6.32-358
I'm slightly confused. Thanks for any advice.

latest driver is included in our latest kernel (pve-kernel-2.6.32-23-pve: 2.6.32-109), see:

root@pve:~# modinfo megaraid_sas

Code:
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-23-pve/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas.ko
description: LSI MegaRAID SAS Driver
author: [EMAIL="megaraidlinux@lsi.com"]megaraidlinux@lsi.com[/EMAIL]
version: 06.600.18.00
license: GPL
srcversion: D7C72B1660AC8DB45B7443A
...

Thanks, Tom. But how about the current kernel of Proxmox VE 3.0, 2.6.32-22-pve. Will that work as well?

Code:
# modinfo megaraid_sas
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-22-pve/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas.ko
description: LSI MegaRAID SAS Driver
author: megaraidlinux@lsi.com
version: 06.504.01.00-rh1
license: GPL
srcversion: BAEA569F109C63BD8764796
...

I forgot to mention I'm running Proxmox VE 3.0 on a bare metal Debian Wheezy. As recommended, I initially installed the Proxmox kernel like this:

Code:
# apt-get install pve-firmware pve-kernel-2.6.32-22-pve

How do I install a more recent kernel from your stable repository? Couldn't find any information about this in the Proxmox Wiki.

very very nice! Thank you for the great support.
And no, I haven't tried it out yet as I'm just considering buying the LSI 9271 controller. I just wanted to make sure it won't be a hassle.
Best regards, Philip
