connect via RDP and you will have automatically a sound device - install skype as always.

by usind RDP you do not need to configure a sound device in the KVM VM.

Hi Tom,

Thx for your answer.

Does it mean, you use skype 4.1 on a PVE 1.4 beta2 with Win XP Pro SP3 with no problem. !

I try change all parametres
I try restore my 1st VM installation
I try install 3.8 skype
with no result

Juste work for me with skype 3.5.0.229.

 "What did i do wrong this time"

My vmid.conf have a problem ?

Code:
name: xpprotesquenure
sockets: 2
vlan0: rtl8139=8A:9A:9B:D7:CE:52
bootdisk: ide0
ide0: vm-105-disk.qcow2
ostype: wxp
memory: 2048
onboot: 0
cores: 1
args: -soundhw sb16
boot: cad
freeze: 0
vga: cirrus
hostusb: 05e3:0701,046d:0a0b

Hi Tom,

After a fresh install Win XP RPO SP2, no update.
Just install E1000 driver.

I install skype, start it and crash.

I became crazy with that.

Code:
less /etc/qemu/500.conf
name: XPPRO
ide2: local:iso/xppro.iso,media=cdrom
vlan0: e1000=FE:F2:39:4D:91:7A
bootdisk: ide0
ostype: wxp
ide0: local:500/vm-500-disk-1.qcow2
memory: 2024
sockets: 1
onboot: 0
description: ide e1000
cores: 1
And i no have sound device.

Win2003 on the same PVE works fine with skype

just installed skype on a winxp sp3, no issues (used rtl8139 as I was to lazy to install the e1000)

Hi Tom,

After some tests :
(Fr = french)
PVE 1.4B2 core2duo, locale Fr, web Fr.
VM :
XP Pro Fr
XP Home Fr
XP Pro ultimate 7.1 SP3 Fr
Win 2003 US

Try with skype installer, or with skype .msi

Juste works on Win 2003.

Dont find sound device RDP (IDK whats looks like ?).
But in W2003 no device found by skype.
After read tones forums, i dont find where its come from.

I have the feeling that comes owing to the fact that I do not have soud device in my VM.(already try add SB16, with no change)
Or from Fr locale (cant load VM creat with Fr on Us web interface)
Or ...

(excuse me for my relative English)

Tesquenure

we have a workaround

For those, who come here via web search engines. There exists the same problem with Skype on Windows in VirtualBox.

There is a workaround in VirtualBox Ticket #1710.

You need to open properties of skype.exe, go to Compatibility tab and set Compatibility mode to Windows 2000. This workaround helped me with latest build of Skype 4.2 on Windows XP SP3 under KVM in Ubuntu 10.04.
