issues shutting down VM (ie. Windows)

I am currently using Promxmox 5.2 and have problems with the shutdown command from the Proxmox web interface.
I have the impression that the Windows VM don't receive the command or it does not report back the status to Proxmox itself, so I was wondering what is the recommended way for handling this issue.

Have you installed the Qemu-guest-agent on the VM?

In Proxmox VE, the qemu-guest-agent is used for mainly two things:

1. To properly shutdown the guest, instead of relying on ACPI commands or windows policies
2. To freeze the guest file system when making a backup (on windows, use the volume shadow copy service VSS).

So according to that documentation Qemu agent is required also for Linux VMs?

If you enabled qemu quest agent for VM, Proxmox end shutdown commadn only via the agent. When you disable it, proxmox usingACPI events.
