iSCSI high network usage

I mounted my synology nas via iSCSI and created a LVM on it and made it avaiable to my 3 nodes. One of those nodes is unused and is just there for quorum. On that node that runs no VMs I see really high transfer from my NAS to that proxmox instance (45MB/s continuously). Even after I remove access to the LVM and iSCSI storage targets from that node the traffic is still there. It goes away when I reboot the node but comes back after some time when I add iSCSI and LVM back on that node.

What can I do to track down what is causing all of this transfer? Its several TB of data over time and there is no end in sight.

here is a screenshot of nethogs showing that it is coming from iscsi

moving from thin provisioned to thick provisioned iscsi in synology seems to have fixed this issue.
