Numerous Instructions are provided for installing Proxmox onto an existing Debian (or Ubuntu distro).

Is the installation of Proxmox installations limited to just those specific linux distros, or can it be installed under another existing Debian-based distros such as MX-Linux?

Has anyone attempted to install Promox under MX-Linux and if so, what caveats or workarounds were able to be revealed?

No, Proxmox VE is ONLY on Debian (does not run on Ubuntu or any other Debian based Distro).

I'd prefer to have a different Distro as the overarching Host for the operational aspects of the server with their tools and GUI for base server operations and have Proxmox control VMs, LXC containers, and docker instances.

I have a holding company and want it to have its own webspace and use Promox as a nested control app for subordinate companies and website clients.

It works!!! I spend 2 weeks to do this:oops:. Now Proxmox runs on MX-Linux and i can take MX-Snaphots of the whole main system. There were some configuration problems, but i could solve them.

The main partition is on ext4 but it's no problem. Boot speed is exactly the same as proxmox installed from iso and cpu usage is slightly better.
I don't know why.

ZFS and so on not tested. I only use Vm's and don't need it.

Proxmox-Backup-Server runs also as VM, installed on the main SSD and is backuped by MX-Snapshot.

The backup HDD has a passthrough to Proxmox-Backup-Server and it's perfect. Now I have a full backupable Proxmox on the running system and the backup-iso is through compression from MX-Snaphot only 15GB with 60GB used on main SSD and backup takes around 2 minutes...

Previously I made a clone of the disk from a live usb stick and truncated the image. It used around 70GB of disk space and took around 1 hour, because the main SSD is 500GB...

Windows 10 and Mac-OS Monterey as VM's on seperate ssd's in full speed with graphic support!!!

Everything on one Computer with barrier as keyboard and mouse integration!!!
Best system ever!!! Thank you very much for this wonderful system!!!!!

Proxmox and MX!!!!!!
