Hello,

I trying to fresh install the ubuntu 24.04 to new virtual machine. I got the error during the installation. I have attached the erro screenshot to show the error message.
Could you mind to suggest some method to install the new Ubuntu 24.04? Thank you.

There have pveversion result as below.

The installer complains about a checksum issue. This indicates that the installer was probably not downloaded correctly or the file was corrupted in some other way. You should try to download the ISO from here again [1]. And if it happens again, try to verify the ISO by following this guide [2] before installing.

The Ubuntu ISO could be wrong. Look at the checksum error message. Try again to download a Ubuntu ISO. I have several Ubuntu Server instances running on my Proxmox nodes without any problems.

Hello,
"I am installing ubuntu-24.04.3-live-server-amd64.iso on Proxmox Linux 6.8.12-9-pve #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC PMX 6.8.12-9 (2025-03-16T19:18Z) x86_64 GNU/Linux and it generates an error. I downloaded the ISO file from different Ubuntu mirrors. After a successful download, I verified the checksums.

thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem where the installer would hang on "Installing Kernel" and then fail. I tried the same installer iso (verified the hash) on another instance of Proxmox running version 8 - same result. I tried changing the VM hardware configuration to about every option I could - same result. Then as a test, I spun up an XCP-ng server and had the same results there as well.

Turns out it was something with the default mirror the installer wants to use. I changed to the Pilot Fiber mirror and the install completed without issues on Proxmox. Hopefully this helps anyone else experiencing this.

Hello, so I ran into this today (feb). I can confirm whatever the Pilot Fiber mirror is doing it works for KVM. This is happening with a local virt-manager instance as well, with vanilla ubuntu server, and it is very bewildering.

Great, so I'm not going insane then... I ran into this last two days and felt like I was losing my mind - the Ubuntu 24.04 installer keeps crashing at that exact same spot unless I use the above mentioned mirror.pilotfiber.com
I've tried: 24.04 Install ISO that has worked in the past, using the built-in update during installation and without, downloaded the most recent install image (24.04.3), multiple VM instances, running on different servers in the cluster, using the official (local) Ubuntu mirror, using my own mirror, minimal server install, regular install and maybe a dozen other things as well. Always crashed at the very same spot - repeatably, dozens of times. Installing Debian 13 works as expected, it's just the Ubuntu installer and just recently - I've installed dozens of VMs with this very same image on this cluster and a bunch of others, never seen an issue like that.

Changed the URL to mirror.pilotfiber.com and for some reason... that works. I'm at loss for words. Does anyone have an idea what could be triggering this?

I have automated packer builds that run weekly. I just recently applied a kernel update to my Proxmox 8 hosts and then the Ubuntu 24.04.2 builds started failing. I downloaded the 24.04.3 iso because maybe it was because the .2 iso was old, nope still failing.

Good to know I'm not crazy lol. Now I just need to figure out how to change the mirror or mirror list inside the user.cfg/autoinstall file.

Edit: Added two mirrors to my autoinstall conf and it works like a charm! Great job proxmox community and @pcfreak30 :)

I've done exact the same thing and it works.
Maybe, i'm wrong, but i think it is because this mirror doesn't work. So this is the same behavior as if you block internet access during installation.

Had the same probelm. Ubuntu 24.0.4.3 installed without problems, when the network was set to disconnected during install.

Installation with HWE kernel as installation option using the 24.04.3 LTS ISO seems to work for me having the same problems with the standard installation using the default kernel before which had worked before my last proxmox 8.4.16 updates two days ago.

Was also noticing this today, and took note that the calls to the Ubuntu servers (during cloud-init and mirror validation, as two examples) were running quite slow compared to what I'm used to, may be a red herring though as switching to the Pilot Fiber Mirror did not fix it in my case (maybe whatever is wrong on the Ubuntu side finally replicated to the mirror?)

However, I tried @Aergernis' trick of disconnecting the network card and "continue without network" during the installer and that seems to have done the trick.

Appreciate it, thanks for saving whatever is left of my sanity!
