Hello, good morning, recently i successfully move a physical installation of Oracle Linux 6.2 to a VM on Proxmox, everyhint works as expected, however i just try to install the quemu guest agent with no luck, this could be due to the end of life of Oracle Linux 6.2, i dont longer have support from Oracle , is there any way to install it ? Thanks!

Hi @milocheri ,
The QEMU guest agent is not developed or supported by PVE. You'd need to find community specific to Oracle Linux, they may have a more direct knowledge.
Keep in mind that QEMU agent source code is freely available. If push comes to shove, you can compile the binary on your own.

Good luck.

PS you can run the VM without the agent. Its not strictly required.

Hello, thanks for your prompt response, i thought it was extrictly necessary since after installing qemu-agent on a Windows machine, i just notice a better performance, even thought the Oracle VM it runs fast enogh.

unfortunately, i don't have the knowledge to compile it.

Once again, thanks for your help!

Even if you would have, Oracle Linux 6 is EOL for many, many years. Don't run software that is that old and potentially full of security flaws.
Try to upgrade to a newer version. Since OL7, you could upgrade in-place with LEAPP.

is there any way to install it ?
The guest agent is part of the OS, so just install it via yum. It's on Oracle's official yum server:

Code:
root@oracle-linux-6 ~ > yum install qemu-guest-agent
Loaded plugins: ovl, post-transaction-actions, security, ulninfo
