I thought I'd try installing proxmox. I downloaded the iso and burned to a disc. (dvd) The disc performs the initial boot. then never goes further. it just hangs.

any suggestions? I'm using AMD tri cpu on a gigabyte motherboard with built in ATI video.

It's good to provide more accurate information. Maybe taky photo of boot screen or retype here where exactly booting fails with which error.
If it repeats in same way several times than it could be software-hardware incompatibility.

video

It looks exactly like the install video at 00:09 seconds. It boots to that level and then does nothing else. Keyboard input is non-responsive.

My motherboard is : Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H and I have 4 GB of RAM.
The hard-drive and DVD-ROM burner drive are connected via SATA. The keyboard is a Dell USB keyboard.

  • check your disk - you need a CD, not a DVD.
  • update motherboard bios
  • try using only 2 GB (just for testing if nothing else happens, I remember one board which this issue)

I'll try a few things. I dont currently have any blank CDs, only DVDs. The ISO burned ok onto the DVD... it should not matter, should it not? jsut a lot of extra wasted unused space? I had no problems installling Ubuntu on this machine.

ok, I just hooked up a PS2 keyboard and the install goes to the next screen. For what ever reason, the USB keyboard is not recognized my the initial installer.. and there's no timeout to automatically start the install.

ok, it installed correctly, once a PS2 keyboard was installed. The USB keyboard is not recognized.
