Increase of backup creation/extraction limit (1 by default)

Good evening,
I am searching for a solution to increase the limit of simultanously running backup tasks for latest proxmox.

Problem:
If theres a backup process running allready (for example youre extracting an backup), and you start another one (for example to extract the backup of another vps either) next backup process waits in queue until the first running process is finished, printing in log:
INFO: trying to get global lock - waiting...

I had a older proxmox host running some years ago (I think it was a proxmox version out of 2019) which allowed to run (by default) more then one task at a time.
I am not sure if I managed it years ago myself to increase that limit.


If theres no way to increase, it would be very important to patch this feature with an upcoming update, because we are running very large nodes. Each of these nodes is hosting mostly more then 120 containers / vms at once, which creates huge waiting times if you want to backup every container once upon a time.

Is there a way to increase the limit ?

the only limit is that there can only be one backup running per node. this doesn't affect other backup-related tasks like restoring at all.

you wrote about "extracting backups", so I wanted to clarify that restore has no such limits. the backup task limit is currently not configurable.

Is it possible that it wasnt limited in earlier Versionen ?

there was a short period of time where the locking that ensures only one instance of 'vzdump' can run at a time was buggy, but that was not intentional.

Its very time waisting to Backup 200 vms on a powerfull ssd cluster with Dual epic 128 thread cpu if proxmox only allows one backup to run once while host would be able to handle more


Isnt there any work around?

no there is no work around
