I have a fairly new sabrient 2tb nvme, on a pci adapter. 2011-v2 motherboard, not booting from nvme. Also, I have an encrypted vdev, and proxmox is storing vms in there. I should mention, I have a number of idenitcal servers that are not having this problem...

When I read or write extensively to this drive, I get read or write errors, and it haults. Basically now, i've reformatted the drive, so it's empty, and cannot write to it.

Tried what was available for kernel tuning in this post, but no joy.

Any ideas?

I was thinking about going to micro center tomorrow, and trying a new ssd. I had a sabrient fail in my truenas cluster, with similar issues, so wonder if sabrient might be the problem.

Hi,

if you think the disk might be failing, you could check how the disks S.M.A.R.T values are doing (smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1) or run a self-test (smartctl -t long /dev/nvme0n1). The latter might take a bit of time, you can also check if another test type is appropriate for your situation by checking out the manual (man 8 smartctl).

looks like it was a failed nvme; thanks for the commands - about 70 tb written, seems it should have been capable or more
