I am getting slow speed on proxmox server

Good afternoon, I am a little desperate and need some help, I need to know why when I do a speedtest-cli on the host I have so little speed, "only" I get 450Mbit/s and I should get 920Mbit/s as I have contracted 1gbit and if I do the test in windows I get 920/930Mbits, I have another mini pc with proxmox and in that also I get very little speed, practically half of what I have! I am using the realtek r8169 driver on both proxmox servers I do not know if that will be affecting, if you need more information to get help I will send it thanks!

Hi,
speedtest-cli is not the best way to test your network connection, since the servers that are used as a target are sometimes pretty slow themselves. If you have another machine connected to the network, I would start by checking with iperf3 or similar, if the bottleneck is your pve instance if it is somewhere else. Another thing that commonly can lower your network performance is a defective cable. They often don't break completely, but can cause a significant performance drop.

Good I have done some tests with iperf3, I summarize it for you

i have 2 proxmox hosts (without cluster) they are independent

I have done a test installing iperf3 on server 1 (host) and the same on server 2 (host), server 1 as server and server 2 as client, and I have these results (view from the 2 host servers)





now on the other hand I did another test, I forgot about server 2 and I did a test running iperf3 on server 1 and the same but on a debian virtual machine that was the client and these are the results





I hope I didn't mess you up, actually forget about proxmox server 2, it is a mini server that I have in the dining room and I put it in this example because when I did the speedtest-cli it also gave low speed as it happens in server 1, it seems that the results of the images are fine and the cable that I have works without problem, I hope more answers as it bothers me not being able to get from internet those 920Mbits or at least 900 that it should give me ;/

The test looks good, at this point I would assume that it's either another component like your router, or the speedtest itself is at fault. Probably the speedtest, when I had a gigabit connection to my home I switched away from speedtest-cli, because it was rarely accurate.
