How to know whether a disk format is supported or not?

I was trying to import a VMDK disk into my Proxmox (8.3) cluster using qm disk import --format vmdk and then i got the following error:
format 'vmdk' is not supported by the target storage - using 'raw' instead

How do I know which disk formats does my target storage supports? And how to make it support others?

Only directory based storages using a file system support .qow2 or .vmdk

You can't, because it make no real sense. Those storage types are there because they
already provide snapshots/clones in a more efficient way.

Have you considere a VMware server conversion as possible an option?
However. you do need a functional VMware server and a proxmox server running version > 8.2.2
