I wanted to see if adding a SLOG might reduce the write amplification:

Total Write Amplification (factor):
5 disk raidz1 without slog5 disk raidz1 + 1 disk slog
T1: sync 4K random44,8835,28

T3: sync 4M sequential3,042,76
TX7: 4x sync 32K sequential on host8,347,63

So looks like adding a SLOG helps to lower write amplification. And yes, the writes to the slog are included in the total write amplification.

For performance I'm not sure how comparable they are. The tests wouthout slog where created of a raidz1 of 4x S3710 + 1x S3700 and the tests with slog used 6x S3710. And the S3710 is on paper faster than the S3700.

Thanks. Right now I'm only missing a LUKS encrypted LVM benchmark for camparison with ZFS. Then I will choose how I should use my 8 SSDs and import my VMs again. After that I will try to create a new Thread where I will summarize the results and create some more diagrams.

This is the LVM thin and VM that will be used in Round 2 Run 9:

Host is a single disk LUKS encrypted LVM thin of 1x S3710 200GB.
Guest is a Debian 10 with ext4, ext4 parameters: default+noatime+nodiratime. cachemode=none, io threat=yes, discard=yes, ssd emulation=yes, virtio SCSI, SCSI, virtio blocksize=4K.
(differences to Round 2 Run 8 are bold)

Anything else I should test? Otherwise I'm done now and will look what will be best for my needs and go back to production use.
 
In Round 2 Run 10 I will run all the fio scripts on the host and fio will write directly to a single S3710 200GB SSD on block level.
So this should show what the SSD is capable of.
