How to add hard disk to VM?

I want to add a hard disk to a VM, but the Disk Size is wrong.

The available capacity is 4.83GB:


But the Disk Size shows 32 GiB:


I tried adjusting to 4.8 GiB:


But now the VM says 5033165K, which is larger than 4.8G.



May I need to add the drive to the VM via command line?

Hi,

5033165 KiB is exactly 4.8GiB, which is what you entered in the disk size field. Note that GiB != GB. 32 GiB is the default and given that the "omv" storage is an LVM thin pool, blocks only get allocated when written. Hence, you can have more virtual storage for your VMs than actual physical storage in your machine, as long as not all VMs use their storage to the full extend at the same time.

What size will the guest see if I accepted the 32 GiB default? 32 GiB?
I would rather not have the guest think it has more space than it has, as this would presumably not provide accurate statistics for the guest. Nor would I get alerts to if/when the guest's drive fills up.

Is there a feature where Proxmox can automatically assign the maximum size of the guest virtual disk based on the node's LVM size (4.83 GB)?

You can ask google "4.83 GB to GiB" and it will return the converted value: 4.498288 GiB
