How to access files in encrypted backup?

For unencrpyted backups there is a folder which yields to a file browser to access files in the backup.
How to access files in encrypted backups?

using the client and the matching encryption key (there is a 'catalog shell' command with a CLI browser, and a 'mount' command that mounts the archive via FUSE so you can use your favourite tools to browse and access its contents). both don't download the full backup, but load those chunks which are currently needed on-demand.
 
It would be nice if the access would also be possible via the UI. If it is encrypted, it asks for a the encryption key and the browsing works like in the unenscripted case.

it is planned that the pve gui will also include the filebrowser, in that case it can also work with encrypted backups (since the client (pve) has the encryption keys)

as for the pbs gui, i guess that will not happen, as it would nullify the 'untrusted backup server' idea

This would be a very good (and neccssary) thing!
I have a local PBS where all VMs gets backed up to and an off-site "untrusted" PBS, which should sync the backups in case of loss of the local machines. To implement this, I have to encrypt the local PBS, so currently I am not able to access backups on the local PBS easily.

As long as the key is only in memory during the session, the risk is small.
