I'm just starting to work with Proxmox, my question now is that I don't quite understand why my server has a virtual switch and doesn't have its own network card. Can someone please explain this to me

Netzwerkconfig- Proxmox Virtual Environment.png

The linux bridge is both a 'virtual switch' (where VM network cards can get attached to) and an interface held by the Proxmox host itself (where the Proxmox host itself can communicate and is reachable from).

You don't have to assign a IP to a bridge, but then the Proxmox Host itself won't be able to communicate via that interface.
