Hello. I just created a new server. I decided to overdo it with the memory and installed 64gigs or RAM. I currently have 2 VMs (Ubuntu Server/Emby & Home Assistat) and 1 container (Pi-Hole).

With all my VM's and containers closed, the server is using 32GB of RAM!

With my 3 containers open, I am up to 56.9 GiB or 90.57%.

But as you can see, the individual VMs or containers themselves doesn't use a lot of RAM:

PIHole is only using 59 MiB.

Home Assistant is only using 518 MiB.

And Emby only uses 1.15 GiB.

Why does the system itself use too much RAM? is this a normal thing? Does Proxmox try to use available RAM as some sort of a cache for fast launching?

I did notice that it's only using a small portion of the swap, only 86MiB or 1.06%

Is this the normal behavior of Proxmox? Is something wrong with my install? Do I need more ram, say 128gigs?

are you using ZFS? if so, it's probably the ZFS ARC (a kind of cache). you can configure its limits using ZFS module parameters.
