Hi. Is there any way hold the version of Proxmox VE? For example, if I install Proxmox VE 7.2, it will receive all minor updates, the version of which is indicated after the hyphen, but it has not been updated to 7.3. Thanks.

Hi,

no, this is not possible... Any reason why you would like to do that? You will be missing out on bugfixes and new features that way. If you are unsure about issues during upgrades, a test system is highly recommended.

There is certain software that only supports Proxmox VE 7.2. If the version of Proxmox VE is different, I will not be able to get technical support for this software.

What software is that, that uses such a poorly defined arbitrary point in the (minor) updates between Proxmox 7.0 and Proxmox 8.0?
Are they just a little behind or will they never support a newer version of Proxmox and will you be stuck with a version that has known security issues?
Or is it a specific part of Proxmox, like QEMU 6 updated to 7? Maybe you can pin a particular version (temporarily) of a specific package?
Do they support Debian updates and fixes that happen to come along but not changes to software written by Proxmox?

Hmmm..... maybe a paid LTS-Version? Why not. But I think pve will be more expensive that way. Maintaining multiple branches is a lot more work.

AFAIK, proxmox never deprecate an api endpoint in minor upgrade. Only new features could be added.

you don't really have an 7.1 , 7.2, 7.3 version. (no specific repo). You use promox7. Same than using a distro like debian11.

This is a standalone security software that can be installed separately. The manufacturer of this software claims support not for Proxmox 7, but for a specific version 7.2. In future software versions, later versions of Proxmox will be supported, but possibly not the latest ones.

Therefore, ideally, I need a function with which I can update Proxmox not to the latest version, but to a specific version.

Hold the version to which Proxmox upgrades to would also be useful for long tests in a test environment before using it in a production environment. Otherwise, while testing is in progress, a new version is released that has not yet been tested.
For example, a test environment uses 7.3, while a production environment uses 7.2. We have been working for several months, then, after making sure that the work is stable, we update the production environment to 7.3 and the test environment to 7.4 or 7.5

you can use proxmox-offline-mirror for that. create a repository snapshot, test it, then roll it out on your production hosts.

for "holding" the version you really need to pin *all package versions*, and this is not a good idea or sensible, so it won't be supported out of the box. you can of course do it yourself with apt if you really think you need it - but the first and possibly only answer you'll get when you have problems is "please upgrade to the most recent package versions", we don't want to waste time analyzing issues that are potentially already fixed.
