Hello, I've create a pfsense in my pve server but I'll get high ping usually.
If download or upload over 50 Mbps will get > 1000ms ping pickup.(Use speedtest.net test can recurrent it again)
My ISP network is 300Mbps/100Mbps, used FTTH(EPON)
  1. Network adapter : Intel X540-AT2

  2. PVE Version : 6.0-5

  3. pfsense Version : 2.4.4-RELEASE-p3

  4. Update driver ixgbe from 5.1.0-k to 5.6.1.

  5. pfsense WAN : Linux bridge to network adapter, use PPPoE get IP.

  6. pfsense virtual network adapter : both Intel E1000, VirtIO got high ping / vmxnet3 high ping only.

  7. pfsense setting : Disable Hardware Checksum Offloading : checked, not working

  8. pfsense setting : Disable Hardware TCP Segmentation Offloading : checked, not working

  9. pfsense setting : Disable Hardware Large Receive Offloading : checked, not working

  10. Use other PC under the same modem & PPPoE, no this issue, min/max/avg is 1/18/1, ping 1000 times.
These is I've tried, I have not idea to fix it.

This server was use in windows 10 & vmware, It does't have this issue.
Other PC under the same modem won't happened.(max ping is 40ms, i think it's normal.)

What is the ping time if you connect PVE directly to the PPPoE?
(That way you'll find out if the issue is with the NIC/Kernel, or with pfsense)

I hope this helps!
