I'd appreciate a little help please with MediaPools and MediaSets for tape backup as I'm having a brain fart and just can't get my head around how it works in PBS. Since we have a fully synced backup system (soon to be offsite too) we only want to use tape as a last line of defence in our strategy.
What I'd like is a weekly tape backup job of our entire Virtual Environment to write to one of 2 tapes in rotation. So tape 1 would be written on week's one and three (on a Saturday), and tape 2 would be written on week's 2 and 4 (also on a Saturday). The contents of the tape must have the latest backup of each of the VM's and must not rely upon the other tape for restore (in case a tape fails). This way we pop the appropriate tape in on a Friday night, and each Monday take it offsite. On the next Friday we pop in the other tape and that following Monday take it home. Hopefully, you catch my drift!!
If the recommendation coming from you guys is that 2 tapes isn't enough and I should consider more, that's fine. I definitely want to be able to restore our entire VM environment from any one tape though.
