Help with convertion of Windows 2008 R2

Hi

I'm trying to convert two Windows 2008 R2 servers from Citrix Xenserver to Proxmox, but when I start the VM in proxmox, it starts but fails during boot with some error regarding hardware or software change (I can't read the error as it disappers quite fast)

These are the steps I do to import the VM in Proxmox

1: Run mergeide.reg on VM
2: Remove Xenserver tools
3: Export the VM from Xenserver to Backup (*.xva file)
4: Extract the xva file with command "tar xvf filename.xva"
5: Rebuild to raw image with xenmigrate.py script
6. Create new VM in Proxmos
7: Replace harddisk file with importet one

Can't see what I do wrong

I personally never tested this (we have no xenserver here) but the mergeide.reg does not work (not needed) for win2008 and above.

another way to try: convert with vmware converter for vmware server (boot from converter live CD), boot on vmware workstation or server to see if it boots and then try moving to Proxmox.

Hi,

I have to go through the exact same process shortly... can you comment on how it went for you?

It worked like a charm, I just converted using VMware converter and the virtual machine booted right up
