I'm following this guide to set up GPU passthrough: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/b5xpua/the_ultimate_beginners_guide_to_gpu_passthrough/

All was going great, I installed windows 10, and decided to remove the installer ISO device. Suddenly, I was getting weird install errors and decided to start over since I assumed I had broken the windows install. Bad idea I guess, because now all I get is this error:
1612323537042.png

I've added the ISO file and it is the first boot device. I really want to test GPU passthrough but now I can't even get to the installer. :(

Any idea what to do here?

Update:

Pressing Escape let me manually select the drive. Still not sure why this error showed up when it didn't the first time, though.

Is this post still alive? I get this same message. I am not able to boot OVFM no matter what I try. I have selected every option available in the UEFI menu after pressing escape. This is happening to me on both an AMD and Intel box. As soon as I chose OVMF and q35 this is always the result when trying to load Windows 10 .iso as ide2. Here is my vm.conf:

root@PVE-Glass:/# cat /etc/pve/nodes/PVE-Glass/qemu-server/100.conf

Thank you for ANY input. I have been chasing this for two weeks for hours on end. I will supply any information you like.

can you boot into any iso ? could you test with some linux live cd? (just to rule out a bad windows iso)
is anything visible in the journal when you try to boot ? (maybe attach that here)

Thank YOU for responding. Have not abandoned post! Finding time to get you more information. Please stay tuned! Working on list of hardware configuration of both machines. Have tried multiple windows ISO and now trying Mint 20 Cinnamon.

Here is the info from the two machines. I have upgraded to 7.1-7. I have downloaded Win10, Win 11, and Mint 20 ISO's. Mint 20 works but neither windows ISO's will boot. I get the message above from OP. Proxmox 7.1-7 even defaults to OVMF & Q35 for Win 11 and I checked TPM. Attached is the output from an attempted Win11 boot to ISO for install. Which logs would you like to see? Again, thank you for the help.

I had the same problem, but with a NixOS installation CD. In my case, the iso is not signed, and can't be started using SecureBoot (which is the default on the latest OVMF shipped with Proxmox). If you hit the escape key while it says 'Startup boot options' (and before it says the UEFI message about saying hitting escape that doesn't actually work), then you get into the UEFI menu which you can use to disable Secure Boot and then boot the iso

HHOOO OOOO LLLLYY CRAP! Thank YOU!

Mine was just a touch different though. I had to wait until the 'Boot Options' passed, then hit escape on the next screen and WOW! If I hit escape on the 'Boot Options' it took me to 'Boot Manager'. I had been there many times without success. Windows 11 is now installed. I am sure I will have a few pass through challenges, but Nice!

Thank YOU!!

THIS IS THE WAY!

I've been struggling to install TrueNAS. I have another VM that I created years ago, and I had no issues with the installer. But now that I've migrated to v7, I could not get the ISO to work. I've been googling for hours. Thank you.

@dmayle @relaydenied @Kamotz Was there anything else to configure? I'm running into the exact same issue, but I've already disabled 'secure boot' in the VM but still running into the issue.
It turns out my problem was very embarrassing. When it boots the Windows ISO there is a message in the console "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". I was ignoring it with the impression it wasn't required and that the console would move forward. Turns out,,, it really does require you hit any key. I just hit enter.

So, I have been lurking here for almost a year, getting ready to build my server. Finally got my r730XD and started setting things up and simply could not get true nas to install. Being new to servers, I am pulling my hair out thinking stuff is just plain broken.

Whelp.... not the case at all. This is 100% the solution to not being able to boot from CDROM. I have spent the better part of 1/2 day searching for the issue, thinking the sky was falling. Simply hit escape while the damn thing is booting, but before the actual escape message as that one does nothing.

I simply had to register to give you kudos for this solution. First Post!

The listed fix didn't work for me.

Instead, I went into Hardware options, removed the EFI disk, and added it again while unchecking the box for pre-registering keys.

I fell into the EXACT same trap. I have been playing with Proxmox for about two years on and off now, and I completely whiffed on this... thank you so much for pointing this out!

I had the same issue but it didn't let me delete the disk so I tried creating a new VM without the pr-registering keys and it worked for me. Thank you for your input on this.
